Terry is now retired, having spent most of his working life as an electrical engineer in the nuclear industry.
His love of the countryside and the environment started at an early age, walking in the beautiful Arnside and Silverdale area, as well as the Lake District. As a teenager he was briefly a member of a mountain rescue team while attending a course at the Eskdale Outward Bound Mountain School.
Terry also has a great interest in the sea and the marine environment and served on the Morecambe Lifeboat for fourteen years before hanging up his life-jacket to assume the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager.
He is now a member of the Environment Section of the Skelton Parish Community Action Plan and is involved in a project to re-open a local footpath. Still a keen walker, Terry walks with numerous walking groups in the area, including the Ivegill Footpath Group which in 2010 was awarded a Parish Paths Initiative (PPI) grant to help replace stiles with gates on a section of footpath, thereby opening it up, together with the associated countryside, to less agile walkers.
Terry is also a member of the Carlisle and District Civic Trust and sits on the Carlisle and District Conservation Area Advisory Committee to Carlisle City Council.
